Chips in the knife blades, broken knife tips, discolorations from food and rust spots are not covered. Knife chips and broken knife tips can often be repaired by re-sharpening. Discolorations and rust spots can be avoided by following the care instructions.
The above statement also refers to the Delirium Ideas Knife Block and Sling Back Pack. Both have been specifically designed for the Delirium Ideas ACKS and will provide many years of service by following the care instructions.
Any item claimed as defective must be returned to us for inspection. If you do experience any problems or concerns with the knives simply contact Delirium Ideas to discuss.
Delirium Ideas knives are high-quality knives, which you will be able to enjoy using for a very long time. With the right care and the right storage you can help to ensure this is the case.
- It is best to clean your knives straight after you have used them,
- Wash them in warm water using a damp cloth and dishwashing soap,
- Dry them carefully, and,
- Store them appropriately (you’ve purchased a great knife block, best practice to use it)
- All knives must be used on wooden or polypropylene chopping / cutting boards. Stainless steel, ceramic or marble boards may result in poor performance or damage to knife edge.
Washing your DI knives in a commercial dishwashers?
If you are really pushed for time, your Delirium Ideas knives are suitable for cleaning in the dishwasher. However, it is recommended that you do not wash your knives in a dishwasher, glass washer or pot scrubber.
Why you should not wash your high-quality knives in the dishwasher:
- If your knives are mixed with cutlery in a basket then during the washing cycle the cutlery can rub against your knives and this can cause damage straight away or cause meniscal pits that can commence erosion.
- Stainless steel basically means just that, ‘stain-less’ If you put your knife in a dishwasher and the wash/clean program is not run straight away, any food present on the blade (spices, sauces, juices) can start to damage the stainless steel blade. Spots can form and the blades can even be damaged (corrosion).
- In many workplaces the correct amount of detergent and rinse aid used in dishwashers is not the number one priority. Incorrect amounts can cause great damage, rust particles or localised corrosion can quickly appear, these can be removed using a standard steel cleaning fluid, however it is far better not to cause this damage in the first place.
How to store your Delirium Ideas knives:
Delirium Ideas knives are of a very high-quality which you will be able to enjoy using for a very long time. Stored correctly with the right care and some TLC you will enjoy working with your knives for soooo long as they will become your go-to knives to get all required work completed.
The pack has been expertly designed to carry the knives of the Delirium Ideas ACKS safely and securely in place in the knife block. Any other knives that are carried in the back pack must be carried in a protective knife guard or sheath, if not, these knives may pierce the back pack and result in holes and a decrease in the physical integrity of the pack.
Delirium Ideas knives are specifically made to be used and stored with the Delirium Ideas knife block. Your knives are well protected and always close at hand when stored in the knife block. After use all knives should be carefully cleaned in accordance with cleaning instructions, and inspected before being returned to the knife block. The Delirium Ideas knife block was designed by chefs for chefs and is an eye appealing, slim ‘one of a kind’ design and looks awesome in domestic and commercial kitchen.
DO NOT return your knives to a block or any storage area while dirty or wet as this will cause extra cleaning work in future to return your knives to the correct clean manner.
The Importance of a Sharp Knife
Keeping a sharp edge on any working knife is extremely important. A dull knife is a dangerous knife. Compensating for a dull blade by adding additional force can be dangerous and can cause accidents. A sharp knife is a safer knife (always know where your fingers are!). There are several ways to sharpen your knives: using a steel, handheld or electric sharpener, a whetstone, or using a professional knife sharpener.
You will hear terms such as honing and sharpening, so what is honing and sharpening. Honing is usually conducted using a ‘chef’s steel’ or ‘chef’s sharpener’ and re-aligns the microscopic teeth in the blade, to maintain the ‘edge’ however it doesn’t remove steel to create a new edge the way “sharpening” does. Honing can be used as often as you want. Sharpening a knife actually takes a small amount of steel off the blade. Depending on how often knives are used, they may only need to be sharpened once or twice a year. Delirium Ideas recommend you monitor the sharpness of your knife blade and sharpen as required. One particular knife may need more sharpening then others as it may be your most ‘go to’ knife and require that little extra attention.
Honing and sharpening are critical skills that all cooks and chefs must master. It is important to regularly hone your knife. A well-honed knife will last longer between sharpening. Sharpening knives is the cornerstone of maintaining great knives. It is also important not to over sharpen knives. Each time a knife is sharpened a small amount of steel is removed from the blade. If you do not feel comfortable sharpening your knives, as this may take a little time to master, there are professional knife sharpeners available who can do a great job and help to maintain your knives in the best condition.
